Emily Moravec Radio Astronomer Scientist at Green Bank Observatory
I am a radio astronomer and an Assistant Scientist at Green Bank Observatory (can you spot the GBT in the header picture above?). My last name is pronounced More-eh-vick.
I obtained my Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Florida in 2019. Then I moved to Prague in the Czech Republic for my first postdoc to work at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences as a researcher and as a support scientist at the Czech node of the European ALMA Regional Center. Then I came back to the United States for my second postdoc at Green Bank Observatory. And now am permanent science staff at GBO. At GBO, I support MUSTANG-2, the archive, GBT operations, and student programs.
My research interests are active galactic nuclei (AGN), radio-AGN, galaxy clusters, and the interplay between radio-AGN and galaxy clusters.
I thrive at the intersection between science and the public. I have a passion for science communication and engaging all ages in the thrills of scientific discovery. My scientific background and my desire to use that knowledge to impact society together drive my pursuit of and involvement in science policy.
Outside of my science career I enjoy training for and participating in triathlons, paragliding, and playing board games. Lastly, I am the proud owner of several radio telescope necklaces made by Amy Davis Roth. You can find me at any professional event wearing these!
